FARMER CITY--Police say a man holed up in his home since 9 a.m. Friday morning finally surrendered. It happened on the 1000 block of East Allen Street. Police didn't want to use force. They were afraid the suspect would hurt himself or others. Dozens of officers set up a command center at the Day's Inn hotel to keep a close eye on the situation. Police are thankful that situation didn't spiral out of control.

We still don't know much about the suspect: his name and if he was armed. We do know armored trucks rolled into the neighborhood after a 911 call about a domestic dispute. Police say the man's wife and two children got out of the home safely. People who know the family are shocked over what happened. "They used to be a nice, happy family and the guy just started drinking and [then] they put him in rehab," said Emo Balazi. "Two weeks ago he came out and we thought everything was okay and here this morning [look] what happened," he added. 20 homes were evacuated earlier in the day. The families were allowed back in after 8 p.m. Road shut down earlier in the day also reopened. The suspect is now in custody.
